Taking Care of Teeth after Whitening

The holiday season is all about partying, eating and drinking hot and staining foods and beverages. It is fun, but have you realized about the amount of damage you can do to your smile, especially when you have just got your teeth whitened from your dentist? Here, it is worth mentioning that whitened teeth are more prone to get stained sooner; and that you need to be extra cautious if you want your smile to remain bright for a longer time.

Having that said, there are a few things that you can do in order to keep your smile bright and white for a longer period of time.

The whitening methods combination
When it comes to retaining the whiteness of your smile, dentists usually suggest home-based whitening methods followed by in-office teeth whitening. The home-based methods may involve use of trays and bleaching. While trays tend to preserve your smile’s brightness for a longer period of time, bleach can help in refreshing this whiteness.

Then there are a few things that you can do other than whitening methods in order to make sure that you get your smile preserved. For instance:
  • You can rinse your mouth thoroughly after every meal.
  • You need to drink plenty of water during the day.
  • You need to avoid smoking or eating tobacco.
  • Staining beverages such as dark coffee and wines can be avoided.
  • While drinking acidic beverages, use straw.
  • Stick to the fresh fruits and vegetables which have teeth cleaning properties.
Follow dental hygiene instructions
While you can always stick with the preventive methods, ensuring proper dental hygiene is another important part of the story. If you stick with the best oral health routines and simple food eating habits, you can ensure that your smile remains white and your best feature. Having that said, there are the dental hygiene practices that you need to stick with.
  • Use whitening toothpaste and brush your teeth at least twice a day.
  • Keep your brush and toothpaste with you in order to ensure proper cleaning after every meal which includes fast and processed foods. This tip is especially for the ones who spend most of their time in the offices.
  • In order to avoid the building up of plaque, floss after every meal.
Apart from these very basic oral health maintaining procedures, you need to visit your dentist after every 6 months to make sure that your dental health is at best. Infections can start to develop. So these dental visits are helpful in preventing or getting rid of infections from very start.
